3.3.9. Check / adjustment of gaps of valves
For compensation of various thermal expansions in the distributive mechanism there has to be a gap.
At too small gap gas distribution phases change, compression is worse, engine capacity falls, operation of the engine is uneven. In extreme cases valves can be damaged, or can burn saddles and valves.
At too big gap there are strong mechanical noise, gas distribution phases change, the engine because of not enough filling of cylinders gives smaller power, operation of the engine is uneven.
Adjustment of valves only then achieves desirable result if valves faultlessly condense, have no inadmissible side play in guides and the ends of cores are not brought down.
The gap of valves needs to be checked and regulated after repair, at emergence of noise in the distribution mechanism. Within maintenance it is not required to check a gap of valves. The diesel engine of 2,0 l has hydraulic pushers which automatically choose a gap of valves. At these engines the gap of valves is not regulated. At unusual noise in the mechanism of valves it is necessary to check hydropushers (it is carried out in a workshop).
The gap of valves has to be checked or be regulated on the heated-up engine, however it can be regulated also on the cold engine. In this case it should be checked on the heated-up engine.
Check conditions
PERFORMANCE ORDER |
1. Start the engine and warm up until temperature of cooling liquid on reaches 80 ° –90 °C. |
2. Stop the engine. |
3. For simplification of work remove drop candles. |
4. Unscrew a cover of a head of cylinders. |
5. Install the transmission in neutral situation, tighten the emergency brake. |
6. Install the piston of the 1st cylinder in the provision of VMT. |
7. At the same time in the provision of VMT there is the 4th piston. Cylinders are considered from right to left. The cylinder 1 is on the party of a maple belt of the engine. |
